The U.S. Department of Transportation, in coordination with the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center, recently launched Walk Friendly Communities (WFC), an initiative that recognizes communities that support walkability and pedestrian safety. Localities must apply to receive a WFC designation and will also have access to resources on how to improve walkability in their communities. The deadline for applications is December 15.
African American men are disproportionately impacted by cardiovascular disease (CVD), with one of the risk factors being uncontrolled high blood pressure. A heightened public health response is required due to the disparities in high blood pressure control in African American men. In order to provide a resource for public health programs that addresses high blood pressure control in this population, this book was created and provides valuable guidance to stakeholders to facilitate positive changes in their states and communities.
