The Cancer Health Equity Webinars are a series of capacity building webinars for CDC program directors and their grantees. Each topic is presented from the director’s perspective to help the CDC program director engage grantees and manage the work to ensure optimum grants outcomes, as well as from the grantee’s perspective to develop best practices for disparities reducing cancer control activities that are replicable.

The Creating Healthier Communities Through Policy Change webinar on June 26 from 1:30-2:30 (pacific) is an introduction to creating more vibrant, equitable, and healthy communities. The content will cover the difference between policies and programs, how to change the social norms that affect health outcomes, and the eight critical elements of ChangeLab Solutions’ trademark approach to effective policy development, including using and building an evidence base, ensuring legal and financial feasibility, approaching solutions to health inequities, and taking implementation and enforcement considerations into account.
The American Heart Association will host the webinar The Roadmap to the Target: Heart Failure Honor Role (A Hospital Perspective) & Heart Failure Risk Models and Stratification with speakers Dr. Warren K. Laskey, Diane Dodendorf , Dr. Zubin Eapen , Sara Camp and Victoria Hennessee on June 26 from 9-10 AM (Pacific).
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin and other tobacco control leaders will present a webinar to discuss findings from the report, Preventing Tobacco Use Among Youth and Young Adults: A Report of the Surgeon General. The webinar will take place June 27 from 11 AM-12 PM (Pacific) and will discuss current information on a national effort for colleges and universities to promote tobacco-free campuses and will present a case study of the State University of New York’s success in implementing a tobacco-free campus.
PolicyLink will host The Power of Regional Equity Networks: Tools for Regional Advancement webinar on June 27 from 10-11:30 AM (Pacific). This webinar will explore the formation and sustainment of effective regional equity networks and coalitions.
The Public Health Policy Change Series: Smoke-Free Public Housing webinar will be held July 3, 2012 from 10-11 AM (Pacific). Webinar attendees will learn about the legal considerations involved when adopting and implementing smoke-free policies for subsidized housing. A representative from HUD’s Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard will review recent HUD announcements and initiatives regarding smoke-free policies and the Director of Operations and Property Management from the Boston Housing Authority will discuss that authority’s decision to implement smoke-free policies.
The Alliance to Reduce Disparities in Diabetes is hosting the webinar Overcoming Barriers to Reducing Disparities in Diabetes in Communities: Lessons from Local Leaders, July 9 from 9-10 (Pacific). Alliance leaders will describe their first-hand experiences in encountering challenges in low-income and minority populations, as well as in implementing innovative health system changes to improve diabetes outcomes for people affected by disparities in their communities.
