Training Opportunities – July 27, 2012

On July 31 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM (Pacific), the American Public Health Association will host a webinar: The Road Ahead for Public Health and the Prevention Fund: Action for the Summer Recess. The webinar will discuss the latest national developments from Capitol Hill and Washington DC, share evidence, tools and strategies to lift up community prevention success stories; and discuss legislative outreach tools and messages to use during the August recess to educate leaders and decision makers.

On July 31 from 11 AM to 12:15 (Pacific), PolicyLink will host a webinar: Healthy Food, Health Economies, which will explore why and how supporting efforts to improve food security and healthy, local foods can strengthen communities.

Helping Patients Quit: New Research on Clinical Tobacco Interventions – August 9, 2012 at 9:30 AM PST
Sponsored by Partnership for Prevention and the Multi-State Collaborative for Health System Change, this webinar will feature Dr Shanta Dube (CDC) and Dr Thomas Land (Massachusetts Dept of Health) discussing the latest findings on clinical tobacco use interventions.

On August 10 from 11:30 AM-1 PM (Pacific), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) will host a webinar Making Decisions in a Changing Public Health World to discuss a new report born from a series of discussions with local, state and national public health leaders about approaches to strategic decision-making in a changing political and fiscal landscape. The webinar will highlight key take-aways from the report, which include the need for public health leaders to develop policy goals and partner with health care, business and other sectors.

On October 10-12, the Network for Public Health Law will host the 2012 Public Health Law Conference: Practical Approaches to Critical Challenges in Atlanta. The conference will focus on prevention and promotion at the community level, changes and challenges to public health legal infrastructure, challenges to public health authority, and more.
