This funding opportunity provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is to build local resilience, through a Whole Community approach, in communities across America: the Community Resilience Innovation Challenge.  Projects will be funded up to a maximum of $35,000 and can support a broad range of creative activities and may include organizing resources, partnerships, and leadership activities among small neighborhood groups, civic or faith based organizations, private sector entities, or educational institutions.

The Campaign for Public Health Foundation is seeking nominations for three Unsung Heroes of Public Health awards:

  • The Rock in the Pond Award recognizes an individual for outstanding work on a community-based or state-wide public health effort that produced significant positive health outcomes.
  • The Wavemaker Award recognizes a visionary whose work on a large-scale multi-state, regional, national or international public health program has successfully impacted a major public health challenge.
  • The Excellence in Media Award recognizes an individual who produced a widely-viewed media story (or stories) focused on disease control and prevention.

The deadline for nominations is November 1, 2012.
